Pownce vs Twitter

I honestly do not know what is the big deal for Twitter-ing. I mean seriously, all you do is actually post up random messages which is in the form of a one liner and thats it. But i have been seeing it alot on a lot of blogs. People actually like this feature. Ok you already have blogs that lets you speak your mind. And now you got this other thing that allows you to speak you ‘thoughts’ hehehe, random and small minor thoughts and jot down your lil’ activities like ‘oh I’m at the airport and waiting for my honey’. Hehehe it’s a laugh! So take a look at it on the side.

Then guess what another feature like itself comes along called Pownce. Only thing is, the difference, instead of being free to all, you have to get others to invite you first. Very much like how Gmail started with itsexpansion of people using Google Mail. And what do you know, now everyone or at least most people are Gmail-ing. I managed to get an account from Mickey C. and this is his blog btw. Thanks man. So for those who want an account, I have another 6 more invites to go. So beep me if you want one. ^_^

That said, ok I’ll give it a shot at both and see which I shall prefer or if I even like them at all.

Guild Wars Eye of the North

Ohhh how i miss playing!!!!! And I haven’t done so for a fair bit… sighhhhhh. I wanna play Guild Wars.

Worse still, my character is still in Prophecies and she’s NEARLLLYYY finish, sigh I haven’t even gotten the other expansions yet and Guild Wars Eye of the North is coming out this Aug 31st. Sighhhh. Anyways here are a few images on Eye of the North and gosh are they gorgeous!

Pikifax & Spresent

You know how there are times you wish you had a reasonably good photo editor like say.. oh i don’t know… Photoshop! But in the end you are stuck with the slowest of the slow computers in the office (which is quite sad by the way), and you have no choice but to resort to there I say it….Paint!

And then there is the occasional crap I don’t have POWERPOINT on my windows or worse, my presentation looks like crap. Now what?

Well for those who needs a quick tuner, I recommend a few things that maybe of help when you need to fix or spruce up your pictures for a quickie. I’m also going to recommend another super duper cool webware, which i recommend trying.

1. If not go and use PIKIFIX, this I highly recommend. DO yourself a favour and go check it out. It looks like the bottom picture. And also high recommended on Webware. This online feature allows you to put in effects,adjust colours, put in borders, crop, add text and a fair bit more.

Yeap this image above was cropped and not even saved, but all done via web, how cool is that. And that’s what pikifix looks like btw.

Oh and they have other services to like Pikipimp and Piki

2. Now the other Tool I highly recommend is Spresent. An online feature that allows you to create powerpoint presentations, or even presentations with neat flash applications and best of all, you can even embed the presentation into your site/blog! How Cool!.

But if you can really afford it, do get ACDSee 9 Photo Manager (or get it by via means, ahem ahem). Maybe some may not agree with me on this. But I honestly find that this is one powerful program, from mild editing, to browsing your pictures, to renaming a bunch of pictures at a go, cropping, and converting them from PSD to normal JPG… The list could go forever. It is super handy! Below is just an example of what it looks like.

And also get the real Powerpoint 2007 if u can, beautiful piece of work which allows YOU to create beautiful work.

Dumbledore’s Army – Join Me!

I decided to give the game a go for Dumbledore’s Army and I think it is quite fun… Hopefully I won’t get addicted to it. Currently now Malaysia is ranked 35.. not that I’m very bothered and I tihnk US is top with Korea quite close to its tale. Haha, if you want to try go ahead and log in at Dumbledore’s Army

Potter All Grown Up

I came back from the cinema and had just watch Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix.A number of people had actually commented that it wasn’t very good and to be fair it was just alright. The plot was fairly the same as any other plot of the Potter books, which was Harry vs Voldemort. Albeit it I found some tad unnecessary if not how-did-it get there scenes like for example the kiss between Cho and Harry. Um yes it is relevant to the story because….? And when we’re they even together as a couple and yeah so what if there is mistletoe… Ok enough on that.

Maybe it is the mannerism of the story but I find that the Potter movies are getting darker as they progress. The appearance of Bellatrix Lestrange, Sirius Black’s deranged cousin gave me a bit of a scare I must say. As she was walking in a jerky manner towards the edge of Azkaban I swear it looked almost like a part of the exorcist (cringes). Brilliant acting as always by Helena Bonham Carter. She seems to alway be associated with the loony bin characters in movies , lol. She does play them off rather well.

But oh my my my, have they all grown up nicely and can I dare say Daniel Radcliffe has grown up to be quite a yummy young man. He has muscles ladies and gentlemen. Hermione played by Emma Watson, while a some points seemed a bit forced, I see her turning out to be something of a Natalie Portman actress as she grows up, lovely, talented and please I hope she does not turn out like another Lindsay Lohan. Ginny was showing a straonger character here and that too was also pretty cool and she’s turning out to be a lovely girl. I absolutely adore Luna Lovegood. The actress who played her, Evanna Lynch did a nice job, that gave her character such charm and appeal as the lil loony lass. Will be looking forward to see what else she can produce. Ron (Rupert Grint) has grown up and I think bulked up a bit too.Hehe I think that one year gap was a problem for the movies. One minute you are looking at them all as lil ones and next thing you know puberty has hit.

And as any fan of soundtracks I love love love the music of Harry Potter and I’ll consider getting it later on. But in the mean time, lets all have a listen, shall we. The composer of the soundtrack is Nicholas Hooper.

WordPress Upgrading and Themes

Hehe going out to my friend Erin – Confessions of A Paradoxical, whom I am so proud that she managed to upgrade her WordPress from and older version to WordPress 2.2.1. Erin was busy trying to find a new template, and was having the same prob like most of us when it comes to templates, which is why some of us opt to just design out own. So I stayed up at 2 in the morning to hep her settle the prod, lol.

I honestly sometimes get scared when I am upgrading my WordPress to a newer version, cause well you never know what is going to happen, even if you do backup hehe.

Upgrading WordPress is fairly easy. I sometimes cheat by just saving my htaccess and my wp-content, and my wp-config. Please do not I repeat i do not follow what I do. lol.

Things you must have before upgrading.

1. FireFTP for Firefox or any FTP program
2. Have your new WordPress File already downloaded and unzipped.
3. Backup all your files from your server. (**especially HTACCESS, WP-CONTENT folder AND WP-CONFIG.php – which I’ll call HWW)

Ok now go on ahead to the wordpress codex page and read on. lol

Step 1

Go to your plugins page and DEACTIVATE all your plugins to avoid some computer mishap.

Step 2

After you have your FTP all set up connect to your server, I’m using Fireftp. So click on Manage Accounts which is on the far left and key in your details under ‘New’. Key in the new Account Name, you host name, your login and password for your server. Then when done click connect.

Step 3

Now go to your WordPress folder which should be in public html (if I’m not mistaken) and delete the files that you are going to upgrade all accept for HWW. And anything else which you think is neccessary like favicons and what not.

Step 4

After replacing all the files, now key in this line into your address bar. Run the upgrade program at http://example.com/wordpress/wp-admin/upgrade.php. This e.g. updates your database. Its only in one step and tada you are done ^_^. Now go and activate back all your plugins and have an ice cream for doing it on your own hehe.
